What Does Easter Mean To Me?
As many Christians celebrate the holy holiday of Easter, I find myself looking at it from a personal perspective. This is a holiday that is rooted in an event that changed the face of humanity forever, and somehow, like most Christain holidays, it has been relegated to a commercialized festival weighed down with symbology, and marketing ploys that has absolutely nothing to do witht he Resurrection.
When we look back at the last days of Jesus, we see so many things take place. Things like the healing of the blind, the feeding of the 5,000, the deliverance of the woman caught in the act of adultery, the woman with the issue of blood being cleansed, and so many more. We sometimes forget or gloss over the fact that Jesus is the embodiment of God, God in the FLESH, and he cam down to walk among US. He came to show us that He had a plan for us to be saved, to be reconciled unto Him, to be redeemed from the contract of sin and death that was handed to the devil on the day that Adam and Eve would partake of the fruit of the Knowledge of Godd and Evil. That act of rebellion put our souls under the curse of Death. Not that our souls would die, but that by way of death, we would be seperated from the presence of God. Because of this, God had to make a way to redeem us, without violating that laws that He put in place, without compromising His integrity. This could only be done through a sacrifice of blood. The problem is that there was NO ONE with blood pure enough to be an acceptable sacrifice, no one except Jesus.
It would be HIS blood that would pay the price for our redemption. So it DOES bother me that people can treat this day like some commercial holiday to show off how much money they spent on food, candy, their ‘Easter Sunday’ outfit, and so on. This is a chance to remember with reverence the day that God’s promise for our redemption was FULFILLED. Today, the curse that would forever separate us from God is lifted, and we have the chance to be saved, and return to the presence of God forever, DESPITE the mistakes we have made (and the ones we WILL make).
God DIDN’T have to make a way to save us. He didn’t even have to care and could have just wiped us out and started over. But He CHOSE to set a plan in motion, to pave a way to reclaim what He created unto Himself. And that plan would be sealed with the Resurrection.
So as we celebrate this holiday (and not just today, but every year that it comes around), we should at least be mindful of what it took to make that promise bear fruit. The agony, the ridicule, the sorrows, and worst of all, the separation that Jesus felt, all of this so that we could be redeemed. This is not something that should be taken lightly.
Because of that day, YOU have HOPE!
Be blessed, and Happy Resurrection Day!
