The Tallit and Faith

One of the more recognized elements of the Jewish faith and culture is the Tallit, the prayer shawl. This important aspect of their culture is seen in Deuteronomy 22:12, which says…
12 “You shall make yourself tassels on the four corners of the garment with which you cover yourself.
Let’s look at one part of the Tallit that has many scholars discussing its importance and relevance in the New Testament: the tassels, called tzitzit. These tassels are found on each corner of the shawl. You may hear them being referred to as “wings”.
Why is this important?
Let’s take a look at Malachi 4:2, which says…
2 But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall.
So what is the connection to Jesus and healing?
What do you see here in Matthew 9:20-21…
20 And behold, a woman who had suffered from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, 21 for she said to herself, “If I only touch his garment, I will be made well.” 22 Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly[a] the woman was made well.
Do you see the connection between Malachi 4:2 and Matthew 9:20-22?
But not only that, FAITH played a major role here as well. It is most likely that the woman knew the scriptures, and when she heard that Jesus was coming to her town, she remembered that verse and, understanding the absolute power of God’s Word, acted on it in faith; Jesus recognized it.
For your faith to work, you need to know the Word of God, so take some time to read your bible, do a little research from time to time, and pray for God to increase your understanding of HIS Word.
